To show support towards the healthcare workers who are at the frontline of the war against COVID-19, the Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department (PARL) of Central Visayan Conference (CVC) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, together with the Adventist Professional Organization (AdPrO) officers of Cebu City SDA Church, distributed food packs and goods with inspirational booklets to more than 300 healthcare frontliners from three hospitals in Cebu.
The beneficiaries were Vicente Sotto Medical Center workers who received 100 pieces of bread and bottles of soya milk, five cartoons of face masks, and ten cartoons of gloves on March 24, 2020; Talisay District Hospital workers who had 100 pieces of bread and bottles of soya milk, five cartoons of face masks, five cartoons of medicines, and three gallons of sanitizers; and Adventist Hospital Cebu workers who got 150 pieces of reusable face masks and 3 gallons of sanitizers on March 27, 2020.
The officers of Cebu City SDA Church Adventist Professional Organization (AdPrO) headed by Wendell Ganhinhin, AdPrO president; Joel Aganan, AdPrO vice-president religious; Dr. Felix Asoy, AdPrO vice-president social; Dr. Michelle Napigkit, AdPrO secretary; and Mayette Camay, AdPrO treasurer, started the giving of donations such as cinnamon bread, soya milk, medicine, face masks, gloves, sanitizers, and inspirational booklets (Hope Beyond Tomorrow, Steps to Christ, and Love Letter from Jesus).
The AdPro President shared in an interview through Messenger that the objective of their giving of donations is to inspire the health workers and to commend them for their heroic duties.
“As president, I am very honored to work with my fellow officers who are passionate and committed. We hope and pray that through this activity, the frontliners will know more about Jesus,” he added.
The organizers also expressed their gratitude to all the sponsors who extended their help to make this outreach activity a successful one such as the Central Visayan Conference PARL Department, Adventist Professional Organization officers and members, Cebu City Seventh-day Adventist Church under the leadership of Pastor Lemuel Lauron, Advance Pharma Distribution Corporation, Adventist Hospital-Cebu and many others.
Berdandino Maniego, director for the PARL Department in Central Philippine Union Conference, commended the leadership of the Central Visayan Conference Adventist Professional Organization for the initiative.
“It is really a commendable act, sharing love, hope, compassion and making the SDA church visible to the public, especially to the frontliners during this COVID-19 crisis,” Maniego said.
In Christ’s Object Lessons page 385.1, Ellen White wrote, “Wherever there is an impulse of love and sympathy, wherever the heart reaches out to bless and uplift others, there is revealed the working of God’s Holy Spirit….”
At present, the said group is raising funds for the production of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be given to all identified Adventist health workers and to the hospitals in Cebu as well.
