About 250 ministerial workers of Central Philippine Union Conference attended the Evangelism Conference held at the Adventist Academy Cebu in Bulacao, Talisay City on April 19 – 21, 2018, a three-day seminar with the theme, “Fulfilling God’s End-Time Mission.”
The guest speakers were Dr. Robert Costa, ministerial associate in Evangelism & Church Growth for the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church; Elder Samuel Wang, an evangelist to Chinese for Southern Asia – Pacific Division (SSD); Dr. Bienvenido Mergal, SSD vice president & IEL-NDR coordinator; and Pastor Edwin C. Gulfan, SSD field secretary for Evangelism.
“The main purpose of having this evangelism conference is to revisit the concept of the church programs and the mission of the church to evangelize the world,” according to Pastor Elmer P. Pagunsan, Central Philippine Union Conference ministerial secretary.
He believed that the elders and pastors were revived for they were given beautiful concepts on how to do personal/public evangelism and how to train our church members for Total Member Involvement initiative. He also thanked the local conferences, missions and churches for sending delegates for the evangelism conference. He also expressed his hopes and aspirations that the evangelism lifestyle program of the church will be echoed to all the church elders and members.
Meanwhile, Pastor Joel Ceniza, ministerial secretary of Negros Oriental – Siquijor Mission, said that this evangelism conference is a sort of refresher to all. “It motivates and reminds everyone with the purpose of the church which is evangelism. It also encourages the young workers to be exposed, be reoriented and be inspired to be more faithful in the Lord’s work because they are still young in the work; they are still exploring; they are still discovering, and they are still growing like one of us,” Pastor Ceniza shared.
Head Elder Pablito Punay of Cebu City SDA Church, also expressed his impressions. “I really enjoyed the presentations and I was challenged to initiate and apply the things that I learned when I go back to my local church.”
As an application of what they had learned in the evangelism conference, the ministerial workers were urged to join and observe the nightly seminar conducted by Dr. Robert E. Costa from Wednesday to Friday and on Sabbath morning. They convened at the Adventist Academy-Cebu gymnasium, Bulacao, Talisay City with some
of the brethren from the different districts of Cebu and with the candidates for baptism as well.
On Sabbath afternoon, they gathered again at the Adventist Academy Cebu International Church for the commitment ceremony which concluded the conference as each participant pledged to be totally involved in the Lord’s work.
