Burauen district conducted a 12-night public evangelistic series last February 5-17, 2018 at Brgy. Balingasag, Tabon-tabon, Leyte with more than 120 persons from the barangay, young and old, who attended and enthusiastically listened to the word of God.
This was a conjoined effort of the 14 churches under Burauen district. Pastor Mariano S. Salloman, East Visayan Conference Stewardship director and Pastor Zaldy Barrientos, the district leader, were the gospel and health speakers respectively of the nightly meetings with the theme, “Our Greatest Hope: Health and Gospel Seminar”.
Small Group and Total Member Involvement (TMI) were also applied to bring the good news of salvation in the area.
Every night, different churches were designated to lead the program and activities. The attendance of the children, youth, and adults grew every night despite the power interruptions and bad weather conditions brought by the tropical storm Basyang.
At the start of the gathering, there were 38 names listed who were willing to be baptized and wanted to accept God as their personal Savior, but because of God’s guidance and through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, 30 more precious souls willingly submitted and accepted Christ as their personal Saviour.
“Indeed, when we truly rely upon God’s help and strength in doing His work, He will surely work with us in mysterious ways,” the district leader said.
Prior to the public evangelism, a layman was assigned to the area together with some volunteers and newly converted Adventist who used to be a Baptist. The brethren worked together by having house-to-house visitations every day, offering prayers, and giving Bible studies. The families accepted them warmly and eagerly listened to the words of God. Queries about God, His existence, the true day of worship and a lot more were answered.
The baptism was held in Burauen, Leyte, officiated by Pastor Amrafel Magpusao, EVC Sabbath School director, and Pastor Jonathan Muralla, Tacloban SDA church pastor.
Burauen district leader Zaldy Barrientos reminded everyone in his area by saying, “No Christian should feel content, nor think that after baptism the work has already ended. For the challenge of nurturing the newly converted members also lies in our hands and we will be accountable for it.”
Up to the present, the layman has been staying in that area to visit every family. Different churches have also been assigned to spend Sabbaths in the barangay so that they can continue in learning the word of God; love and friendship will also be developed, and proper training may be given that they will increase in knowledge and love in God to keep them firm in holding on to the Bible truth.
Furthermore, the plans for building a church was also one of the priorities of the district. Please include this project in your prayers that this plan will be materialized and kind hearted people will help in building God’s house in that area.
