Pastor Cruz and his family grace CPUC’s week of prayer 2018

By Regeant Pearl E. Villarete

Themed as “The Gracious Touch of Jesus”, the Central Philippine Union Conference’s annual week of prayer was held at CPUC Chapel, CPUC Headquarters, Kamputhaw, Cebu City on January 8-13, 2018, with Pastor Dioi Cruz as the guest speaker.

Pastor Dioi Cruz hails from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and presently he is the assistant professor in Applied Theology at Adventist Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS) in Silang Cavite. He has been to many places already in serving the Lord together with his wife Silvia Zapata de
Cruz and two children, Giuliana & Guido.

Similar to previously held weeks of prayer, this year had also two sessions each day, one in the morning & another in the afternoon. But what made it more special were Silvia’s vivid drawings, drawn simultaneously with each sermon, and song renditions from the Cruz’s children and 1000 Missionary Movement (MM) ‘Here I am Send Me’ (HISM) singers.

Each session was broadcasted simultaneously on Hope Channel-Visayas & Facebook with the following topics: Opportunities, A hard pillow, The Bucket Test, The Silence of God, Identity, Disappointment, The Grave Clothes, Post Truth Era and Remoulded. CPUC administrators, directors & staff, family members & friends attended each session. On the last day, a communion service was held right before lunchtime, and followed by a short lecture from Pastor Cruz and a mini-concert from the 1000MM HISM in the afternoon.

“Every day in our lives, we can experience the gracious touch of Jesus if we let the Holy Spirit possess us. I have learned that if God is with us, nothing can be against us,” said Ronie Maravilla, CPUC chief accountant, when asked about what he learned during the week-long
program.

Engr. Clyde Jan Carpena, CPUC IT head, said he was undoubtedly blessed by the message throughout the week. He shared, “I am blessed with the thought that no matter how stuck I am in sin but with the gracious touch of Jesus, I am saved.”

Indeed, it was a blessed week for the CPUC family.
