Mrs. Ellen G. White stated that the church is organized for service, and in a life of service to Christ. Jesus said, “If you have done it to the least of my children, you have done it to me” (Matt. 25:40). And in another verse in Matthew, Jesus said, “Forbade not the little children to come unto me for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 19:14).
The pen of inspiration and the two verses were the compelling reasons why the church has to be actively involved in community outreach. To follow these heavenly admonitions, the officers and staff of Romblon Adventist Mission donated a certain amount and sponsored a gift- giving activity using the “Samaritan’s Purse” coming from ADRA and the “Operation Christmas Child”.
The planning was coordinated through the Children’s Ministries Department of Romblon Adventist Mission and Sta. Maria Adventist Community Services together with the municipal government and the DSWD office.
The program targeted around 200 children who were chosen from
the different barangays through the effort of the municipal DSWD officer. The distribution program was conducted at Concepcion Sur, Sta. Maria, Romblon on July 20, 2018. It commenced with a short devotional. Pastor Orley M. Fajilan, president of Romblon Adventist Mission, expounded the value of the little children and the reason why the Savior did not set them aside for they are valuable in His sight. He also quoted Matthew 18:3, which says, “And he said, ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’”
After the devotional, the children received the gift boxes. “We really appreciate your benevolence. Thank you so much for sharing your blessings to our children. We hope that you will come back in the near future,” one of the parents shared.
Moreover, Vice Mayor Fabon exhorted the participation and the contribution of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in providing assistance to the community which greatly boost the government’s program in reaching more people and make them feel that the leaders are truly serving their constituents.
The DSWD officer also showed his gratefulness to the SDA Church for the continued support of the government’s program in alleviating the lives and welfare of the least people in the society.
The administration of Romblon Adventist Mission also extended their gratitude to ADRA Philippines for choosing Romblon province as the recipient of the 2018 Samaritan’s Purse gifts. The program served as a linkage of the church to the community and to the local government as well.
Furthermore, the officers of
Romblon Adventist Mission led by
President Orley M. Fajilan and Secretary/
Treasurer Dennis Federico, together with
the departmental directors and office
staff such as Pastor John Panganiban,
Pastor Fernando Narciso, Marilou Fajilan,
Benieva Christy Federico and Leuwin
Partosa, participated in the distribution.
They were also assisted by Sta Maria
Local Government Unit led by Vice Mayor
Lorelie M. Fabon, SB Member Lilia Mindo,
local DSWD officer Merabella Marao
and some of the barangay officials of Concepcion Sur, Sta. Maria, Romblon. The church members and the district pastors also rallied together in supporting the activities of the church in various ways.
