Romblon Adventist Mission conducts health evangelism

By: Orley M. Fajilan

In response to the advocacy of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to promote healthy lifestyle, the Romblon Adventist Mission Health Department with the newly elected health ministries director, Mrs. Marilou A. Fajilan, initiated the “Health Evangelism Seminar” on April 30 – May 1, 2016 at Odiongan SDA Church with the emphasis on the choice of nutritious foods and the right way of cooking them. The invited guest and discussant of the said seminar was Mrs. Jocelyn M. Fetalcurin, R.N., and health educator of South Central Luzon Conference and the supervisor of the conference vegetarian restaurant, “VEGE YUMMY”.

During the seminar, Mrs. Fetalcurin underscored that it is in cooking where people can choose the right and nutritious foods to prepare and many people seem to be ignorant about this. When people are taught and be educated with the dynamics of cooking, surely, many will appreciate the nutritious foods that are found just right at their backyard.

The workshop seminar was attended with 38 health leaders from Tablas Island districts. They were trained on how to use the different healthy cooking techniques that will serve as an entrance wedge in winning souls for the Lord.

During the cooking demonstration, the women were divided into six groups.  Each group was given a recipe to prepare and cook. This was a good way to demonstrate cooking because the participants were hands-on in doing the given task. After preparing and cooking, each group explained how the recipe was prepared and cooked. When the food presentation was done, everybody enjoyed the tasty and nutritious food they prepared.

The participants went home with eagerness in their hearts to share what they have learned from the seminar.
